How to gain your first 100 fans to your Facebook page


The temptation might be to share your Facebook page right away with all your Facebook friends. Not so fast. Take a moment to think strategically about your plan and to fill your page with content so that it looks inviting and engaging when visitors do stop by.

Publish three to five posts before you invite anyone. 

Then try out one of following strategies to get to your first 100 fans.

1. Fill out your page completely

Facebook pages offer an incredible level of detail and information. Many businesses even use them as their main website. To maximize your chances of gaining as many fans as possible, you’ll want to fill out your profile as thoroughly as possible.

  • About section
  • URL
  • Profile picture & cover photo
  • Start info
  • Address (for brick-and-mortar businesses)
  • Long description and mission
  • Phone number and/or email address
  • Create several updates so there is content on the page

One helpful tip is to edit the photo description of your cover photo. When you upload and add the cover photo to your page, the photo will appear in your timeline. By editing the description on the photo, you can control the text that appears in the update.

2. Create some content to make your Page look useful

Start creating useful, meaningful, interesting, or entertaining content that your target audience wants to read and see. This includes photos, posts, events, videos, and so on. A Page without content is one that no one will like.


3. Invite your Facebook friends and contacts

Facebook has a built-in feature to tell your Facebook friends about your page. Click on the Build Audience link in the top right corner of your page, and choose Invite Friends from the dropdown.


You can then pick and choose which friends you’d like to invite, and you can drill down into specific sections of friends, filtered by location, school, lists, and recent interactions.

Once invited, your friends will receive a direct message with an invitation to your page. You won’t have a chance to edit the message they receive.

4. Invite your coworkers

One of the best sources of social media promotion for your company could very well be your coworkers. Ask everyone who works with you to like the page and—if willing—to recommend the page to any friends who might be interested.


5. Promote your Facebook page on your website

Facebook offers a full complement of widgets and buttons that you can add to your website to make it easy for website visitors to like your page.


One of the most ubiquitous plugins is the Facebook Like Box. With the Like Box, you can show faces of those who like the page and even the posts that you’ve recently published to your page.

6. Promote your Facebook page in your email signature

One of the most visible places you might find to promote your page is in your inbox. Edit your email signature to include a call-to-action and link to your Facebook page.


7. Spend a little on Facebook advertising

Facebook lacks many of the organic options of getting your name out there. With a news feed algorithm and the sheer mass of users, paying a bit for extended reach and boost can help.


8. Spread the word on other social networks

What are the communication channel that you’re using right now?

If you have a Twitter, Pinterest or other social networks account, add there the link to your Facebook page and invite the people to like your page.


9. Promote your page trough Email campaign

Create an email campaign to tell people about your new Facebook page where they can keep in touch and get updated on interesting news.

10. Networking – Focus on Building Relationships

It’s important to remember that Facebook is less about promoting products and more about creating conversation with potential clients.

To get more business action to come your way, you need to help your page get noticed beyond your immediate circles. As you get started, it means you may need to set out and find your potential fans rather than wait for them to come to you.

One way to do that is by visiting other Facebook pages where your target audience might be and get involved in the conversation there. This tactic must be performed gently and respectfully, as to avoid anything that may be perceived as spam.


11. Place the link on your other communication channels

Include your Facebook Fan page URL on your business cards, brochures and stationery. Make sure your page isn’t something like: “”, to change it just go to your page on Facebook and on the top of the page click on –Edit Page– then –Update Info– finally click on –Change username.

The total number of filters available on Instagram is now 25. Instagram has recently introduced 5 new filters: Slumber, Crema, Ludwig, Perpetua and Aden. They are the first additions since Mayfair and Willow were introduced in December 2012

7 strategies for writing engaging Facebook posts

Do you want to increase engagement on your Facebook page? Do you write a lot of posts but you don’t have enough likes, shares, comments? You came to the right place to learn 7 easy strategies for increasing Facebook engagement.

After reading the article How to Create and Manage the Perfect Facebook Page for Your Business: The Complete A to Z guide I started thinking how can we utilize the power of Facebook pages in travel & tourism industry. I came up with  five recommendations on how to make the most out of your Facebook page.

1. Use the Facebook page to talk about your brand
Try to create custom landing pages with Facebook timeline’s custom app. They are a great way to keep tour customers engaged with your company and inform them what is new. You can create landing page about anything that you think your customers will be interested in. There are 4 main types of landing pages:
1. Like Our Page
2. Make A Purchase (or participate in a promotion)
3. Visit Our Website
4. Experience Our Brand
One of the main uses of the custom page app on Facebook is creation of customised landing pages for an advertising or promotional campaigns.


2. Post Inspiring photos

Everybody loves to see beautiful photos. Posts with photos have higher engagement than posts that contain only text. Show customers what you have to offer if they stay in your hotel: beautiful pools, spa, natural beauties, beaches, exclusive restaurants. Pinterest is the third most popular social networking site in the world with 145% increase in users since 2012. Let’s clarify what is Pinterest to begin with. While other social media sites like Facebook or Twitter focus on personal sharing, Pinterest is all about collecting and sharing interesting things that you find on the internet. It is a virtual pin-board where you can collect photos and links to products, ideas, quotes or just anything that you are interested in. Pinterest make it easy to organize topics by simply saving a pin. Pin is then displayed as a picture on a pin-board, creating a collection of images as you add new pins. When you click on a picture you will be redirected to original website which makes your pin-board act like an visual bookmark. Re-pinning accounts for 80% of pins and some pins are re-pinned even a hundreds of times.

Photos are a great way for travel inspiration and that is why Pinterest is playing an important role in the early stage of travel planning. How to use Facebook hashtags in travel & tourism industry and why are they useful?


Did you know you can use # for Facebook posts? Recently I read a very interesting article on this topic (Tips from 13 Experts on How to Use Hashtags on Facebook).

If you haven’t been using hashtags on Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest before, let’s clarify – what is the hashtag in the first place?

I will try to explain it as simple as possible – hashtag is when you put a number sign in front of a word without spaces i.e. #hashtag. Social networks are able to track hashtags and will display all conversations and images that includes hashtags from newest to oldest. You can find people interested in common topic, get involved or start a conversation. So, this one was pretty easy!

  • Use industry specific hashtags or you can create your own hashtag for your audience  and according to their interests!
  • If you are using hashtags on Instagram and/or Twitter, then also use them on Facebook. Integration does miracles in social space.
  • You have to use hashtags in the right way and use the right hashtags for your audience.

Recently I read a very interesting article Social Media Trends for Marketers: New Research and I started thinking how things quickly change in digital space and compared to 2013 trends we have slightly different landscape. Social Media and Digital space is changing so quickly that marketers sometimes hardly can catch up with all changes. You have to be constantly connected and follow new trends, experiment, measure and define what is working and what is not working and why.

As mentioned at the beginning, here are the top 7 Social Media trends for 2014 according to latest research published on SocialMedia Examiner site:

1. Increased exposure to social media

No wonder majority of businesses noticed that increased exposure to social media has a favorable influence on their brand. In New Zealand internet penetration in 2012 was 88% (source: Internet World Statistics) and people are massively using social media. The most popular social media sites in New Zealand in 2013 were: Facebook, YouTube, WordPress, LinkedIn, Tumblr and Twitter (the full list can be found here: Social Media Statistic, July 2013). This means – almost all your customers are on-line! There is no better place for business to be than on social media. From my point of view, social media have one huge benefit: it provides you with the instant feedback directly from customers. It seems that providing original content and blogging will be even more valued in 2014. During my last employment in global company, nobody was much interested in what Google + has to offer. We were thinking that this platform is a waste of time and that we should use more other social media networks like Facebook and Twitter. We had company’s profile on Google + but we haven’t been using it at all. That was such a mistake. Recently, I started discovering advantages of Google + like integration with You Tube which helps you reach much wider audience or hangouts on air. Hangouts on air has been a real discovery for me, not that I only love free video broadcasting, but the quality of video and sound in many cases is much better that on Skype and it can help you reach much wider audience. You can even create your own audience. With the help of Google Drive you can share presentations, pdf’s or password protected documents with your audience. Podcasting is intimate and effective way to deliver content to your target audience. This method of delivery is on the rise because it is time efficient and it cut’s costs. You only need to record a podcast and your audience can subscribe to it through RSS feeds. It is convenient because audience can listen to your podcast when they have time. 6. Facebook ads dominate social

Facebook seams to become the world’s most popular social network (source: Top 15 Most Popular Social Networking Sites, July 2014) and social networks where majority of brands post their ads. Facebook is three times more popular than Twitter or LinkedIn! If your business already haven’t got a Facebook account you should get one soon.


7. Social ROI remains a mystery

No surprise that measuring a social media ROI is still a mystery to majority of marketers as each business use different evaluation methods based on their business goals and social media that they are using.
